About Us

Founded in 2003 Wildflower Turf® has pioneered and developed a soil less growing system which has transformed the concept of turf growing

“The UK’s most prominent Wildflower Meadow experts…

Our History

The Hewetson-Brown family have been farming in Hampshire for three generations and in 1982 set up Coronet Turf to diversify into turf production pioneering a soil-less growing system which has transformed the concept of turf growing.

In 2003 managing partner James Hewetson-Brown started Wildflower Turf, a subsidiary enterprise, and developed the growing of Wildflower Turf to meet the demand for readymade wildflower meadows without the establishment problems associated with traditional seeding methods. Wildflower Turf has continued to expand successfully as a business over the years, fine tuning its seed mixes and techniques to produce a unique and high quality product.

Wildflower Turf Production

Production revolves around a dedicated team of 20 staff over two sites with an annual capacity to supply 180,000 m² of turf to a diverse private and commercial customer base including gardeners, landscape contractors, architects, and educational establishments.

Our Wildflower Turf products now has a wide range of uses in garden, landscape and built environment projects, and an impressive set of green credentials. Whether it be a traditional wildflower meadow, green roof, or river bank Wildflower Turf has established itself firmly as a significant contributor to the environment through its ecological benefits, aesthetic qualities and ability to absorb carbon.

Wildflower Turf is currently working with a number of organisations to help create wildlife friendly environments for species such as bees, butterflies, voles and slow worms, to name a few. These organisations include Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, The Environment Agency and Natural England. A number of councils throughout the country have used the turf to improve parks and open spaces in their areas, and many more have made enquiries for future projects.
