Colin Reader – Our Featured Partner

Our summer Featured Partner is Colin Reader of Wild Flower Lawns and Meadows.

Colin is our biggest reseller of Wildflower Turf products and has been working in partnership with us for a number of years following his attendance at one of our Accreditation Days.

Colin has been interested in, and involved with, wildflowers for over 20 years. His career as an ecologist advising on wildlife habitat restoration projects led him to begin working with an owner of a large country estate in East Sussex in 1999, who shared Colin’s interest in wildflower meadows. Colin was in a position to experiment with different methods of creating and restoring wildflower habitats on the land of the estate, although at that stage, with differing advice being provided by numerous organisations, it was very much a case of trial and error!

Over time and with further experimentation, Colin furthered his wildflower knowledge and his business quickly took off.
Twenty years on, Colin’s current client base is diverse. Via his website (which also serves as a great resource on wildflowers in general, do take a look!) Colin sells directly to the general public, with his own native wildflower seed mixes containing wild orchids (one of Colin’s passions) proving particularly popular.

Colin works with landscape contractorsarchitects and councils as well as assisting private clients. Clients of note have included BBC Countryfile, South Downs National Park, Sussex Wildlife Trust and Colin has also worked with international garden designers and advised national newspapers such as The Guardian.

“After” (Flowering in May 2019)

Colin’s current project sees him working with Wildflower Turf Landscape Turf, laying it between a new-build house and a zero-entry (natural) pool, complementing an array of annuals in the background. No pressure on this job at all (!), as the client is getting married at the end of August, and so Colin has managed the site to ensure that a riot of colour will be present for the nuptials.
